MY FAIR LADY
September 20, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Musical by Frederick Loewe
"Ion Dacian" National Operetta and Musical Theatre Hall
"My Fair Lady" is the story of the simple man who wants to surpass himself, to learn and enjoy life. It is also the story of the one who has the ambition to use his knowledge to refine a human character and to equip him with what man must always have at hand: an elegant and careful speech, an infallible instrument of self-knowledge.
If Pygmalion in antiquity falls in love with his perfect statue, today's Higgins sees his work speaking, singing, dancing and gets caught in the rule-less game of love.
In fact, in "My Fair Lady", the two protagonists approach and reject each other, hate and admire each other, exclude and approach each other in a permanent, musical back and forth. Music accompanies, with its tutelary charm, this flight towards perfection, towards the ideal.
I worked with love and selflessness alongside the set designer, conductors, choreographer, orchestra, ballet, choir, lighting master, not to mention the soloists, to get as close as possible to everything that is human in this masterpiece." Ion Caramitru
