MY FAIR LADY
May 4, 2025 at 18:00
Musical by Frederick Loewe
National Operetta and Musical Theater "Ion Dacian"
“My Fair Lady” is the story of a simple man who wants to surpass himself, to learn, and to enjoy life. It is equally the story of someone who has the ambition to use his knowledge to refine a human character and to endow him with what one must always have at hand: an exquisite and careful speech, an infallible tool for self-knowledge.
If Pygmalion in antiquity fell in love with his perfect statue, today’s Higgins sees his creation speaking, singing, dancing, and getting caught up in the rule-less game of love.
In fact, in “My Fair Lady”, the two protagonists attract and repel each other, hate and admire each other, exclude and approach each other in a permanent back and forth, musically. The music charmingly accompanies this flight towards perfection, towards the ideal.
I worked with love and dedication alongside the set designer, conductors, choreographer, orchestra, ballet, choir, lighting master, not to mention the soloists, to get as close as possible to everything that is human in this masterpiece." Ion Caramitru
