"The Bat" (in German, "Die Fledermaus") is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss – son (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), with a libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée after the vaudeville "Le Réveillon" written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. The premiere took place in Vienna, at the "Theater an der Wien", on April 5, 1874.
Doctor Falke, Mr. Eisenstein's friend, devises a prank to get revenge on him for an older story: after a masked ball, Eisenstein left Falke drunk in a public garden, dressed in a bat costume, to the ridicule of the crowd, which is why Falke was nicknamed "The Bat".

About the "Ion Dacian" National Operetta and Musical Theatre
The "Ion Dacian" National Operetta and Musical Theatre was founded in 1950 under the name of the State Operetta Theatre. The theatre bears the name of the famous tenor Ion Dacian, whose long career is associated with the Golden Age of Romanian Operetta.
From its beginnings, Operetta enjoyed a favorable reception from the Romanian public, the genre enjoying particular popularity especially in the period of the '70s - '80s.
In the new millennium, the Theatre underwent a period of renewal and modernization. The changes primarily aimed at increasing the artistic and technical quality of productions, attracting new audience categories (especially young audiences), and shaping a new image of Operetta, which would illustrate both its rich tradition and its new future projects, intended to transform the Theatre into an important cultural center of the Capital.
The current repertoire of the "Ion Dacian" National Operetta and Musical Theatre includes musicals, operettas, concerts, gala events, as well as seasonal performances.
