The Dossier The Human Voice
A true story about all that cannot be said in words

September 11, 2026 at 7:30 PM

Dalles Hall Bucharest

Friday, September 11, at 7:30 PM, Sala Dalles in Bucharest will host the premiere of the performance The Human Voice Dossier, a story about everything that cannot be said in words. The team that created the independent productions La Serva Padrona and Bach, the Office Colleague returns this year with Francis Poulenc's opera, La Voix Humaine, based on the play by Jean Cocteau, a sonic catalog of emotions, subtexts, and details hidden in allusions, accents, and timbral inflections. Situated at the border between opera and theater, the performance has a completely new, provocative direction inspired by real events, created by Alexandru Pătrașcu, and the participatory scenography is conceived by visual artist Angelica Marinescu. The musical direction is by Cosmin Pătrana, and the soprano Cleopatra David gives voice to the main character.

Tickets are available through the Ticketsrore network (20% discount until August 15)

From Jean Cocteau's mind into the other's mindThe idea came to me in a hotel, hearing through the wall a woman talking on the phone in the next room. I could only hear her voice, her broken lines, her silences. It seemed to me that I was witnessing the purest form of modern drama: a human being hanging by a thread, completely helpless in the face of the other's absence.” declared Jean Cocteau about how his famous play came to be. For Cocteau, it was a creative and unique experience, but we all remember walls where a nail cannot be hammered, yet through which everything can be heard. And if curiosity and chance kept the French playwright captive, the performance at Dalles will give us all the feeling of eavesdropping.

Even more than that!

In 2022, we launched the concept opera in which we all play, a Regietheater formula that connects contemporary man with music from any era and from any part of the world.

Now the story concerns us all and, if the text has given us the opportunity to be witnesses, and Poulenc's music to feel the anxiety, sadness, and smile of the character within our own being, the performance itself will take us out of the state of spectator, making us co-creators of the story on stage.

Where does theater end and life begin?

Artists' Biographies

Cleopatra David is one of the remarkable lyrical voices of her generation, born into an old family of Romanian intellectuals and artists. In recent years, the soprano's career has focused on consolidating the independent cultural sector in Romania, with an emphasis on opera production. She has been applauded on numerous stages in Romania, Italy, Finland, Armenia, France, Germany, Great Britain, and India, and is frequently invited to give masterclasses and vocal technique workshops. Her collaborations include working with conductors such as Alexander Walker, Aleksandr Dmitriev, Ciprian Teodorașcu, Gheorghe Iliuță, and Jin Wang. The specialized press has noted the uniqueness and timbral freshness of her voice. "You can't get enough of Cleopatra's voice" - wrote journalist Călin Hera after the performance Bach, the office colleague.

Alexandru Pătrașcu debuted as a director in the independent opera production La Serva padrona, continuing with Bach, the office colleague, both productions being invited to international music festivals. He is the creator of the blog About Opera, which addresses diverse themes related to the musical life in Romania: performance reviews, musicology articles, book reviews, record reviews, translations from the international specialized press, interviews with musicians and opera directors, as well as analyses of current musical events in Romania. In 2014, he published a book, in collaboration with Ioana Diaconescu, Vasile Moldoveanu - A tenor on four continents, in electronic edition, comprising adapted versions of articles from the blog about the artist's career. Since 2014, Alexandru Pătrașcu has been the correspondent for Romania of the magazine Opera from Great Britain, one of the most reputable international publications in the field, and deputy general director of the Ion Dacian National Opera and Musical Theatre

Accompanist at the Bucharest National Opera, Cosmin Pătrana followed university and master's studies at the „National University of Music Bucharest”  major piano section, under the class of prof. univ. dr Dana Borșan. În 2014, he benefited from an Erasmus scholarship at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica G. F. Ghedini, and between 2014-2020 he was an accompanist and soloist in concerts organized by „Dengel Concerts”, Germany. În present, he is a professor and accompanist at the „Dinu Lipatti” College.

Through her artistic and research activity, Angelica Helena Marinescu, doctor in sociology and communication sciences, explores the relationships between artistic imagination, personal and cultural memory, and new social and digital contexts. Starting in 2014, her research has focused on the field of performing arts, developing a practice-based research approach, which explores the relationship between ritual, (cultural) memory, and bodily experience. Her interest in performing arts is closely linked to the analysis of how artistic practices can contribute to well-being, both at the individual and community level. Visual anthropology projects, such as the research dedicated to the ritual dance Kui Enda of the Kondha Adivasi communities in Odisha, India (2020), highlight her interest in the relationship between tradition, ritual, and bodily experience.
