About the show:
• Premiere in Italy: The show "Romeo and Juliet. Rock Story" premiered, besides Sibiu, also on the stage of the legendary Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, being subsequently presented also at the International Ballet Festival – Syracuse (Sicily).
"Romeo and Juliet. Rock Story" bears the signature of the Italian choreographer Marcello Algeri and transposes the Shakespearean tragedy into a vibrant artistic expression, using as a musical backdrop famous rock songs by the band Queen, completed by compositions by Tolga Kashif and Sergei Prokofiev. The show explores the forbidden love between Romeo and Juliet and the conflict between their families, Montague and Capulet, through the force and dynamics of contemporary dance. Marcello Algeri is a choreographer, dancer, and ballet master of Italian origin, recognized internationally for his extensive work in classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet.
Marcello Algeri's career is distinguished by versatility and a prominent presence on stages around the world (France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, USA, Ukraine, Russia, and Romania).
• Multiple Roles: He has worked as a dancer, choreographer, ballet master, and artistic director.
• Choreographies: He has created over 60 choreographies, encompassing a wide range of genres: classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet.
• He is known to the public in Romania, especially in Sibiu, for the contemporary dance performance "Romeo and Juliet. Rock Story" (to the music of Queen, Tolga Kashif and Sergei Prokofiev), created for the Sibiu Ballet Theatre (TBS).
• Other creations include major classical productions (such as Carmen, Don Quixote, Cinderella), but also modern productions like "Stravinsky Evening" (which includes The Rite of Spring and The Firebird) and "Opera Ballet Rock" (to the music of P. Floyd, Deep Purple).

Performances in the Country:
Besides the permanent season in Sibiu (at the "Ion Besoiu" Cultural Center), TBS is often invited to participate in events and galas in the major cities of Romania, supporting national tours with its most popular shows. They also have a tradition of ending the season with grandiose outdoor performances in the Large Square of Sibiu, bringing ballet to a wide audience.
Sold Out in Tours: The manager of the Sibiu Ballet Theatre, Ovidiu Dragoman, has stated that all performances with this show, both in Sibiu and in international tours (including Italy), were danced with a sold-out house.
This indicates that the Sibiu Ballet Theatre is a cultural force with a strong footprint, having a dance company at a high technical level and a constant touring activity, which ensures its international visibility.
"It is a pride to bring to the Romanian public a show that started on the stage of the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo in the autumn of 2022 and conquered the audience with its emotional intensity and innovative approach, and the national tour offers an excellent opportunity for lovers of dance and rock music to rediscover a classic story in a completely new way.
The contemporary dance show "Romeo and Juliet. Rock Story", presented by the Sibiu Ballet Theatre, was invited to the stage of the Siracusa - International Ballet Festival, in October 2023.
In the context of the Romanian-Italian Cultural Year 2026, we invite the public to rediscover the emotion of Shakespeare to the rhythms of Queen, in an interpretation that received ovations in Italy, considering it the perfect symbol of our cultural dialogue that we have had in recent years.” Iulian Rădoi- Artistic Manager
